Dive Boat Fun: Your Ultimate Guide to an Unforgettable Day Under the Sea!

Paul Seldes   Oct 22, 2024

You’re on vacation! You have the day off! You’re a diver and ready to lose yourself under the sea! Hooray—let’s go diving! As Paul Seldes, an SDI/TDI Course Director and part of the exceptional crew at Stuart Scuba, I’m here to ensure you have the best dive day ever. Just follow these nine stress-free tips, and get ready for a splash-tastic adventure!

1) Book with a Reputable Dive Shop

First things first—make a reservation with a dive shop you can trust! If you’re not sure where to go, do a little detective work. A well-trained, experienced crew can make all the difference in your diving experience. Plus, local dive clubs are like treasure chests full of information! At Stuart Scuba, we pride ourselves on providing top-notch service and safety for divers of all levels.

2) Pack Smart

Don’t forget your certification card! And if you’re bringing your gear, double-check that everything’s in working order. If you’re renting, be sure to reserve the correct gear before you arrive. Nothing ruins a dive day faster than realizing you’re missing your fins or your BCD doesn’t inflate!

3) Arrive Early for Peace of Mind

On dive day, rise and shine—get to the boat early! Arriving ahead of the crowd means you’ll be more relaxed and ready to soak in the day. Plus, it’s a great chance to chat with the crew at Stuart Scuba and learn more about the day’s dives. Who knows? You might even make some new friends before you hit the water!

4) Gear Up and Get Ready

When the crew points out your spot, it’s time to unpack your gear and get ready for adventure! Arriving early means you can spread out a little—keep your gear compact and stow anything you don’t need. At Stuart Scuba, we believe in a tidy boat; your dive gear should fit neatly under your bench seat. If space allows, feel free to make yourself at home!

5) Chat with the Crew

Don't be shy—talk to the crew and ask questions! If something’s on your mind, say it! The crew is there to help keep you safe and make sure you have an epic day. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or just starting out, being open about your experience level and any concerns will make your dive day smoother and more enjoyable. Remember, communication is key, and at Stuart Scuba, we’re all about fun and safety!

6) Listen Up!

When the captain welcomes you aboard, tune in! Pay attention to the crew's briefing—this is where important safety messages and dive procedures are shared. Your safety and enjoyment depend on knowing what’s going on, so resist the urge to chat with your buddies or fuss with your gear. Trust me, it’s way more fun when you know what to expect!

7) Don’t Rush Off the Boat

Once your dive is over and you’re back at the dock, take a breath and relax! Wait for the crew to secure the boat and for the captain to say “thank you” before disembarking. After getting your gear off, keep in mind that the crew might need to turn the boat around for the next trip. If you’ve got time, they’re usually happy to chat. And if you want to show your appreciation, a round of drinks for the crew after they’ve cleaned up can go a long way!

8) Tipping Like a Pro

Let’s talk about tipping—it's a sensitive subject, but it’s essential! Your dive boat crew works hard, often behind the scenes, to make your day fantastic. A good tip in Florida typically hovers around $10 per tank, so for a standard two-tank dive, consider tipping around $20 per diver. If you’re diving with us at Stuart Scuba, remember that tips are often the crew’s primary income, so show your appreciation for their hard work!

9) Have Fun and Share the Love!

Finally, remember to have a blast! Share your adventure on social media, and don’t forget to thank the crew and write a glowing review on platforms like Facebook or TripAdvisor. Your kind words can make a big difference!
