Course Prerequisites
To enroll in this advanced course, divers must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum age 18 (or 15 with parental consent for Advanced Nitrox)
- TDI Nitrox Diver or SDI Advanced Diver certification (or equivalent)
- Proof of at least 25 logged open water dives
What You Will Learn
This combined course goes beyond basic nitrox and advanced diving to equip divers with essential technical skills for both Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures diving:
Advanced Nitrox Skills
- Physics and physiology of gas mixes over 40% oxygen
- Dive planning, gas switching, tables, computers, and oxygen limits
- Cylinder labeling, analyzing nitrox mixtures, gas blending, and equipment ratings for high oxygen use
- In-water skills: precision buoyancy, trim, gas management, controlled air sharing, and situational awareness
Decompression Procedures
- Advanced decompression dive planning and emergency response
- Selecting decompression gases, following schedules, and stress mitigation
- Equipment selection, pre-dive checks, gas switching, SMB deployment, and controlled buoyancy for ascent
- Contingency management for equipment failure, omitted decompression, and navigation errors
Certification Requirements
To achieve certification, students must complete all course materials and examinations, as well as demonstrate competent dive planning, mature judgment, and safe execution of all open water skills.
